Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Deep Connection and Meaningful Work at JHMES

As we wrap up 2024, I find myself filled with gratitude for the meaningful collaborations and transformative work we've undertaken at JH Manuscript Editing Services. This year has been one of significant transition, as I stepped into my role as Virtual Writing Lab Coordinator at Sofia University while refining JHMES's focus to serve post-doctoral researchers and established academics in psychology, with particular emphasis on transpersonal approaches and grief studies.

The Joy of Long-Term Collaboration

One of this year's most rewarding experiences has been supporting a talented author through her book publishing journey. After helping secure her book contract, our relationship blossomed into a year-long partnership where we work together month by month, chapter by chapter. Our collaboration extends beyond mere editing—we meet monthly to discuss her writing process, exchange weekly emails of encouragement, and navigate the challenges and celebrations that arise along the way. This deep, sustained partnership exemplifies the kind of meaningful work that brings me joy: supporting authors not just with technical expertise, but with understanding, encouragement, and steady guidance through their writing journey.

Bridging Academic Worlds

The summer brought an exciting opportunity to copy edit a comprehensive book for the Al Karam Institute. Working with multiple authors across various chapters, this 75,000-word project demanded careful attention to maintaining consistency while honoring each author's unique voice. Projects like these remind me of the importance of building bridges between different academic perspectives and approaches.

Supporting Scholarly Transitions

Before transitioning to my role at Sofia University, I had the privilege of helping six doctoral candidates polish their dissertations through detailed APA 7 copy editing. Each project reinforced my commitment to supporting scholars at crucial moments in their academic journeys.

One of the year's highlights was guiding a recent graduate through the process of transforming their dissertation into a published journal article. This work epitomizes my approach to academic coaching—providing structure, feedback, and encouragement while empowering authors to find their own voice and create their own content. Currently, I'm working with another recent PhD graduate on a similar journey, scheduled to conclude as we close out the year.

Learning from Challenges

Every year brings opportunities for growth, and 2024 was no exception. An experience with a public health dissertation taught me the importance of staying true to one's expertise. When faced with unfamiliar citation styles and content areas, I made the difficult but necessary decision to refund the client and recommend someone better suited to their needs. This experience reinforced my commitment to focusing exclusively on psychology manuscripts and APA formatting, ensuring I can provide the highest level of service to my clients.

Looking Forward to 2025

As we move into 2025, I'm excited to continue deepening my focus on transpersonal psychology and grief studies. The combination of my roles at Sofia University and JHMES creates unique opportunities to support scholars in meaningful ways. Whether working with authors on book proposals, helping researchers transform their work for publication, or providing developmental editing support, each project is an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of psychological understanding.
