Certified in Motivational Interviewing: A New Chapter in Client Support

I’m excited to share a personal and professional milestone: in March 2025, I completed my certification in Motivational Interviewing (MI)—a client-centered, evidence-based communication method designed to help individuals move through ambivalence and make meaningful change.

For those unfamiliar, Motivational Interviewing is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and respect for each person’s autonomy. It’s often used in counseling and coaching, but it’s just as powerful when applied to academic writing support. Through MI, I’ve deepened my ability to guide clients not only through technical writing challenges but also through the inner blocks that can arise when working on complex projects like dissertations, journal articles, or books.

This certification has given me tools to:

  • Help clients explore and resolve their own uncertainties about writing and publishing.

  • Offer support that empowers, rather than pressures.

  • Foster a sense of agency and ownership in the writing process.

I pursued this training because I believe that editing and coaching are about supporting the whole person behind the writing. Whether you’re facing self-doubt, perfectionism, or feeling stuck, Motivational Interviewing helps us work together in a way that honors your voice and your goals.

If you’re curious about how MI-informed coaching might help you move forward with your writing, I’d love to talk. Feel free to reach out for a free sample edit or consultation.
